A few years ago when I was about 7 years old I moved to town, hoping to make friends and new memories. It was going well until the forest incident. The forest incident happened around May or June. We were coming out of school ready to go home and play outside. When I found my bus I waved to my friends goodbye and hopped on to the bus. Once I got on and saw that we had a sub, it wasn't unusual for our bus driver to be out. I mean driving 2nd, 1st, kindergarten, and pre-schoolers is a lot of work! So as I was sitting with my bus buddy, the bus driver was very weird as he was driving, taking us the correct way, but somehow there was a confused look on his face. I don't why he had made that face, but I was a child and children don't need to understand adult looks. So I was chatting, when all of a sudden there was a big thud. The bus went quiet for just a few seconds til a girl looked out and shouted and said, "The forest!” The kids were screaming, crying. Pre-schoolers were terrified as they curled up to second graders crying for protection. As he took us deeper and deeper into the forest, there seemed to be no emotion on his face. Then the bus came to a sudden stop as the pre-school and kindergarten kids became quiet as the bus driver stood up and just stared at us. The bus then had a cool rush wash over us. Then he just smiled, walked back to his seat and said ¨oops¨ as if everything that just happened was normal. Then when the girl that was curled up next to me her eyes red from crying looked up at me. I knew that she would remember this forever. And maybe if he is still out there, driving kids he better not be traumatizing kids, and maybe he learned his lesson or maybe he did it on purpose to make the kids become quiet, but all I know is that that one day changed all of us. And I still remember the pure terror on the little girl's face when she knew that this was going to live in their minds forever.
