Opinion: We Should Have a Car Show in Sparta

By Alex Y

Do you like cars? Do you have a friend who likes cars? If the answer to one or both of these questions is yes, then read on. I have lots to talk about. Some people think that car shows are a waste of money, time, and work, but the truth is, there are so many good things about them. A series of car shows would not only bring a ton of attention, money, and much more to Sparta, but they would also be a great learning experience, stress reliever, and a publicity opportunity. According to http://www.carcovers.com/resources/car-show-tips/,  “a car show is a  get together of people with old and new cars. People come to show off their cars, look at them, make new friends, and learn about cars and engines. If you are considering souping up your car, you could meet some people who work on cars.”

Now, within this series of car shows, the two biggest and greatest ones would be the Import and the Classics car shows (Including newer muscle cars and newer trucks.) An import car, such as a Nissan R34 Skyline GTR, is a car that is made or manufactured in another country and brought by boat, plane, etc. They are just amazing cars, and it would phenomenal if that could be a reality.
Next, is the Classics car show. A classic car is usually an old car, such as a 1970 Chevy Camaro or a 1949 Ford Stinger, but this one would not only be open to old American-made cars, but to the newer versions of those, such as the 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 or the 2014 Ford Shelby GT500.
A series of car shows would do good for all the people in and around Sparta because it would be a great learning experience. First off, people could learn all about the cars themselves. For instance: what year they were made, the stock/customized parts in the cars, top speeds, etc. If your car is missing a part or breaks down, people could learn how to fix it or prevent     something like that. Also, if the car is customized, people that are thinking about altering their cars could learn what customizations could be used, how they were put on the car, and where to get them done professionally. All in all, there is so much that people could learn from car shows.
Next, it would bring a lot of publicity to Sparta. You're probably thinking, “How could a car show bring a lot of publicity to a town?”  Well, let me explain. The owners of the cars would come from the car shows, maybe go get a bite to eat, go see a movie, and possibly live in Sparta. Also, newspapers and bloggers would write a lot of good things about Sparta. They might say things like, “Sparta is a great town to be in. There is so much to do in Sparta. Like go to the car show, or go to the movie theater…” Finally, if these car shows became popular enough, maybe news reporters would bring a camera crew and report live from Sparta.
Finally, many people wouldn’t be so frustrated with finding a car show to show off their sick rides. A friend of mine who owns a customized Subaru Legacy and a customized 1970s Camaro is dying to show them off. But, here’s the sad part: he told me that he never could find a car show close to him. If this idea becomes a reality, he wouldn’t have to look forever for a car show. Also, people I have talked to have said, “I have this awesome car, but there is no nearby car show for me to show it off.” Well, as I said, people won’t have to look forever for a nearby car show. This would save people a lot of money. Why? Well, the closest car shows are in New York and Southern Jersey, and people don’t want to drive all the way there and spend a lot of money on gas in the process.
In conclusion, having a series of car shows in Sparta would be a great idea. People wouldn’t be so frustrated with finding a nearby car show, it would be a great learning experience, and it would bring tons of publicity and revenue to Sparta. And Mr. Mayor, if you are reading this, please think about this idea. It would be a dream come true.
